Training Workshop

Records Management & FOIA Compliance Workshop

Charleston County Council Chambers, Charleston, SC

A full-day workshop covering best practices for public records management, Freedom of Information Act obligations, and digital archiving strategies. Offered in partnership with the SC State Archives and the SC Press Association. Attendees will earn continuing education credits toward SCCCA certification.

Quarterly Meeting

Spring Quarterly Business Meeting

Myrtle Beach Convention Center, Myrtle Beach, SC

The association's spring quarterly meeting serves as a forum for membership updates, committee reports, and coordination with the SC Association of Counties (SCAC) on legislative matters. All active SCCCA members are encouraged to attend. A hybrid attendance option will be available for members unable to travel.

Summer Leadership & Ethics Seminar

SC Bar Conference Center, Columbia, SC

A two-day seminar co-hosted with the SC Ethics Commission addressing leadership responsibilities, conflicts of interest, meeting management, and emerging legislative changes. Sessions are led by legal experts, county attorneys, and senior clerks with decades of experience in South Carolina local government.

Spring 2026 Clerks Chronicle Now Available

The Spring 2026 edition of the Clerks Chronicle is now available to all SCCCA members. This quarter's issue features a profile on long-serving Lexington County clerk Margaret Anne Tillman, a roundup of legislative changes affecting council operations, and a guide to the association's updated certification requirements.

Training

SCCCA Launches Updated Certification Program

The SCCCA Board of Directors has approved a revised Certified Clerk to Council (CCC) curriculum, effective January 2026. The updated program incorporates new modules on digital governance, open meetings law, and council agenda management. Members currently enrolled in the program will be grandfathered under the existing requirements through December 2026.

Recognition

2026 Winter Conference Award Recipients Announced

At the 2026 Winter Conference in Columbia, the association honored three members for outstanding contributions to public service. The Clerk of the Year Award was presented to Dorchester County's Sandra Pruitt. The Emerging Leader Award went to Georgetown County's Brandon Holloway. A special recognition was given to Horry County for its innovative digital agenda publication initiative.

Legislative

2026 Legislative Session: Key Issues for Clerks

SCCCA and the SC Association of Counties have jointly identified four priority areas for the 2026 legislative session: remote meeting authorization, electronic signature standards for official records, council compensation transparency, and updated public notice requirements. The association will provide member briefings as bills progress through the General Assembly.
